The Kansas City Chiefs had Christmas wishes for the NFL schedule, but it doesn’t seem like the league would allow it.
On April 2, the Athletic reported the chiefs. I asked the NFL to form a team. “Fixtures” for Christmas games. Just like Santa, the chiefs want to start showing Christmas every year. Apparently, the Chiefs wanted to start their annual Christmas game, as the Cowboys and Lions perform at Thanksgiving every year.
Unfortunately, for the Chief, it doesn’t sound like it will happen. Mike North, Vice President of Broadcast Planning for the NFL, explained why it is likely that the league will not commit to one team for the Christmas game. North was asked about the subject this week in an interview about the “It’s Always Buffalo’s Game Day” podcast. He had two answers. It’s not great for fans, and it doesn’t guarantee that the team is always good.
“From a fan’s perspective, I know the Chief is probably raising his hand, but there’s a lot to ask your fans to come out every Christmas,” North said. “It’s certainly easy while you’re fine, win the AFC West title and fight for the Super Bowl. Five years from now, Patrick Mahomes will retire and they’re not a perennial division champion, and in all AFC Championship games, we don’t want to marry the site.”
Just because the Chiefs don’t play every year doesn’t mean they won’t play December 25th in 2025. The Chiefs have played at Christmas in each of the past two seasons. And while there could be three streaks this year, again, it won’t be an annual one.
“The league office loves to host it every Christmas, as teams like the Chiefs volunteer at Christmas, with their tight end (Traviskells) dating the biggest pop star on the planet (Taylor Swift) to volunteer at Christmas while they’re all other Super Bowl winners,” North said. “Thank you for volunteering. But I don’t know if it will become a tradition like Thanksgiving. Think about the tradition that took place: the Lions since the 1930s, the Cowboys since the 60s.”
NFL to hold historic Christmas triple headers: 2025 Schedule to include games on Netflix and Amazon

North noted that besides the Lions and Cowboys, the NFL is reluctant to schedule which teams in their annual game. The NFL added a third game to the Thanksgiving Slate in 2006, and the league could have asked teams to host the game each year. Instead, the NFL decided to spin the game. That’s what North says is likely to happen in the Christmas game.
“When I got it back about 20 years ago, I didn’t commit to the third Thanksgiving site,” North said. “We’ve made it spin. I think we’ll keep spinning Christmas too.”
Both Jets and Bengal Offered to host a new Black Friday game for the NFL Each year, both teams were shot down as the league wanted to keep things open.
“There were other teams that raised their hands to become permanent hosts like Black Friday and Christmas, but so far we have avoided committing to something like that,” North said. “Never say it, let’s see what the next few years will bring. But today, I don’t think we’re going to commit to a third permanent host for Thanksgiving, a permanent host for Black Friday, or a permanent host for Christmas.”
The Chiefs won’t play every Christmas, but they could potentially play on December 25th this year. And even if not, Chiefs fans can celebrate their holidays by watching the team’s distinctive films.
I don’t know who’s playing this Christmas, but the NFL Keep triple headers on holidays There are two games on Netflix and one on Amazon. Along with other games on the 2025 schedule, the Christmas game will be released in May. The NFL is Currently targeting May 13th, 14th or 15th For the release of this year’s schedule.
