Oprah Winfrey has announced her latest book club pick, “The state of dreams” Eric Puhner. Set for 50 years in the countryside of Montana, the novel tells the story of a young bride who left behind a “pictorial” husband after falling in love with his best friend. Despite the betrayal, the three characters remain intertwined throughout their lives.
Winfrey told CBS Mornings Tuesday that Dream State resonated deeply with her as she explored the pivotal moments when life-changing decisions are made.
“What if you made another decision?” Winfrey asked, reflecting on the book’s central theme. She further explained that at one point, everyone wondered whether they had made the right choice in life, especially when it came to marriage and relationships.
For Puchner, the book tackles the concept “Trap Door of Rection,” which he introduced during the conversation. He explained that it was fascinating to imagine life might have been better elsewhere, but in the end he said, “You could have been equally happy or so happy. do not have”.
Puchner said the book emphasizes that happiness comes from accepting the decisions we make.
The discussion also touched on the depiction of a story of male friendship. Puchner said he was intrigued by the relationship between two main male characters who had been best friends since college, Charlie and Garrett. After a profound betrayal, Puhiner delves into how their friendship endures for over 50 years.
Puchner reveals that the house featured in the story is inspired by the house his family visited for 25 years, and holds a special place in his heart. Puchner, who is married to novelist Katherine Noel, said the story is not based on his own experiences, but reflects his interest in the complexities of relationships.
The story may seem to focus on betrayal, but Puccinner also said it about finding peace with life choices. “This is a decision I made,” he said.
