F&S initiated the recall after being notified by local supplier Grimway Farms that the products may be contaminated with E. coli, which produces Shiga toxin. The notice comes just days after several brands of organic whole carrots and baby carrots were recalled nationwide.
Federal authorities are investigating an E. coli outbreak that has left one person dead and at least 15 hospitalized.
The F&S recall includes plastics that display a three-digit number from 236 to 284 after the letters “GH” and have a best-before date of September 1, 2024 to October 19, 2024. Contains carrots and celery that were sold in clamshells. Although it’s no longer sold in stores, the produce may still be in people’s refrigerators and freezers.
E. coli can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young people, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
