The 2025 Cannes Film Festival lineup was announced Thursday morning and includes a mix A name familiar to the competition Alongside relative newcomers.
In all, 19 films have been announced to compete in the 78th edition of the festival, but festival organizers added one or two titles before the opening of the ceremony in May.
Among the competing films are new titles from directors Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater, Kelly Reihard and Ali Astor. The six films in the lineup are directed by a shy woman from the seven sets record two years ago.

It was also announced that the one-day holiday (“Partir un Jour”) directed by Amélie Bonnin will be the official opening night selection.
Many film enthusiasts and industry figures consider the annual award of Parmedore not only to be one of the finest honors of artistic achievements in the world of cinema, but also to be the start of an unofficial award, especially as an academy of the arts and sciences of motion painting.
In recent years, films released at Cannes have found themselves increasingly in Oscar Hunt. Over the past six years, two Palme D’Or winners, Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” and Sean Baker’s “Anora” have also landed Oscars for the best picture. Prior to that, only “Marty” in 1955 and “The Lost Weekend” in 1945 were able to achieve the feat of winning both of these top awards.
The recent list of Palm winners nominated for at least the best photo include Justin Trieto’s “Autumn Anatomy” (2023), Reuben Ostrand’s “The Triangle of Sadness” (2022), Michael Haneke’s “Amore” (2012), and Malick’s “The Tree of Life” (2011). Last year’s Oscar nominee roster included several titles that first arrived at Cannes, including “The Substance,” “Emilia Pérez,” and “The Apprentice.”
The brothers of filmmakers Julia Decornau and Dardennes during this year’s competition have won the previous festivals, Duclenow from Titan, and Dardennes from both Rosetta and Lampant. Dardennes is one of a small group of filmmakers who have won twice.
Earlier this week, festival organizers confirmed that Tom Cruise will return to Croisette with “Mission: Impossible – Final Calculation.” Cruise was awarded the honorary Palme d’Or in 2022 when his film Top Gun: Maverick was screened at the Cannes Festival that year.
Organizers also announced that actor Robert De Niro will be honored or awarded at the opening ceremony.
This year’s festival will be held from May 13th to 24th.
