Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem’s wallet was stolen Sunday night and was eating at a restaurant in downtown Washington, DC, and two law enforcement agencies confirmed with CNBC.
NOEM’s bags included about $3,000 in cash. She has withdrawn to treat her family with dinner and Easter gifts and activities, a DHS spokesperson said Monday.
According to CNN, the bag also included Noem’s passport, makeup, blank checks, driver’s license, keys and medication.
The US Secret Service reviewed security footage showing an unidentified white man wearing a medical mask and snatching a bag, CNN reported.
Noem was asked about the theft late Monday morning during the White House Easter Egg Roll, which he said “has not been resolved yet.”
She told NBC News that the Secret Service is aware of the incident but has not yet told the agency about it.
The Secret Service is still collecting information about theft, an agency spokesman told CNBC.
