President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021 may have been scaled back due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Washington, D.C. is currently hosting this year’s monumental event for President-elect Donald Trump. Preparations are underway to welcome a huge number of visitors.
“The public hasn’t been able to attend an inauguration since 2017, so there’s going to be a lot of interest,” Elliott Ferguson II, president and CEO of Destination DC, told Fox News Digital. I’m expecting it,” he said.
First-term presidents typically have larger inaugurations, according to Destination DC’s data partners.

Kristin Petersen, a travel advisor with Travelmation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, told Fox News that she advises her clients to avoid rush hour when flying into the Washington, D.C., area.
Virginia’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Dulles International Airport (IAD) are the closest airports to the nation’s capital.

“Rush hour commutes are going to be congested and take a long time,” Petersen said.
Therefore, “we recommend flying mid-week, as most people travel to and from the city on weekends.”
Petersen said he expects hotel prices to continue to rise and rooms to fill.

“The ideal location would be a hotel within walking distance of the Capitol,” she said.
“It’s going to be very difficult to get around the city because a lot of areas in the city are closed and a lot of places are closed.”

Petersen said he is advising visitors to consider staying at destinations outside the district at metro stations if hotel costs in the area are beyond people’s budgets.
Travelers should check the weather before traveling and prepare appropriate clothing.

“2025 is off to a snowy start with temperatures below average… Travelers should expect sub-zero temperatures and the possibility of snow,” she said.

“You can always remove layers if temperatures rise,” Petersen says.
It’s helpful to have a thick coat, insulated walking shoes, gloves, a hat, and even a warmer.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on January 20th on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

The parade will begin around 2:30 p.m. on Inauguration Day and last for 60 to 90 minutes, according to the Destination DC website.
