The Navy announced on Saturday that another destroyer has been sent to the southern border to support an ongoing maritime effort to curb illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
Navy officials said USS Spruance, a guided missile destroyer for the Arleigh Burke Class, departed from Naval Base San Diego on Saturday to support its border operations in the south.
The goal of this mission is to restore territorial integrity at the borders of the southern United States, according to a Navy statement.

According to the statement, Spruance will strengthen maritime efforts, strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation, support inter-ministerial cooperation, and contribute to a coordinated and robust response to maritime-related terrorism, arms spread, piracy, environmental destruction and combating illegal marine immigration.
“The deployment of USS Spruance as part of USS Northern Command’s Southern Border Mission will bring additional capabilities and expand the geography of unique military capabilities to work with the Department of Homeland Security,” said General Gregory Gillott, commander of Usnorthcom.
He planted USS, the USS, the gravity of the USS, the recently deployed destroyers of the USGulf, offshore, and with the presence of naval maritimes, “it shows determination to contribute to all domains, coordinated DOD responses to the President’s executive orders and achieve border operational management.”
Trump’s use of warships for border enforcement makes for “smart” use of military power, experts say

Coast Guard officials told Fox News Digital earlier this month that hundreds of migrant ship encounters were recorded near the San Diego coast in the past 90 days, prompting the allocation of additional resources.
Spruance will bring maritime capabilities to the US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) in response to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which is a state of emergency declaration and a clarification of the role of the military in protecting the integrity of US territorial entities.
According to the statement, the Combatant Command “continues to bridge the gap between the key capabilities that support DHS and CBP.”

The destroyer will be embedded with the US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Integration (LEDET), created in 1982.
The Redet of the Coast Guard will implement a variety of maritime blocking missions, including anti-copyright piracy, military combat operations, blocking foreign immigration, protecting military forces, anti-terrorism, homeland security, and humanitarian responses.
On December 19, 2024, he returned to Naval Base San Diego, after a five-month deployment took place in the operating areas of five US ships and the 7th Fleet as part of the Abraham Lincoln Career Strike Group (ABECSG).

The strike group has been ordered to the responsible US Central Command to strengthen the stance of US military forces in the Middle East, block regional escalation, reduce Houthi’s capabilities, defend the US military, and sail along with allies and partners to promote security, stability and prosperity, naval officials said.
“To include Spruance, Abeck’s assigned destroyers were essential to provide a defensive layer to the US forces and ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels and partner countries through international waterways such as the Red Sea, Bab-Elmandev Strait and the Gulf of Aden,” the statement said.
