A string of shootings in Minneapolis last week killed six casualties and five others injured in just 24 hours, highlighting the “consequences” of “anti-political rhetoric and leadership failures.”
Minneapolis authorities announced Thursday the arrest of 34-year-old gang member James Ortley in connection with the massive April 29 shooting.
The April 29 incident was the first of six 24-hour shootings, killing six people in total and five others injured, police said, adding that investigators are determining whether some of the shootings are related.
“Sadly, Minneapolis has experienced the tragic consequences of years of anti-political rhetoric and failed leadership from the Minneapolis State Council and the Hennepin County Madman County prosecutors, where Minneapolis sits.” “If city officials demonize law enforcement, cut police budgets, and refuse to prosecute criminals, the results are purchased on the streets.”

In particular, he added that after George Floyd’s police killing in 2020, Minneapolis became “Ground Zero” due to a “police refund” campaign, adding that public sentiment towards maintaining police and officers is not the same.

“In a few years, police staffing is still declining,” he said. “We still have half of the police officers we need, because morale has been shattered and criminals have been born out of that political movement. Schultz said Moriarty has chosen to “actively pursue law enforcement” and “… to elect him to dismiss a variety of very awakening policies, such as giving individuals who have committed serious violent crimes a generous plea deal or otherwise taking race into consideration in guidelines and so on.”
For example, the suspect in Tuesday’s mass shooting has a long criminal history.
Hennepin County records show Ortley was allegedly involved in a crime in which a Minneapolis resident was shot through a bedroom window in February, but as the Star Tribune first reported, the district attorney ultimately refused the 34-year-old’s charge.

Over the past 15 years, he has also faced charges ranging from DWI to aggravated robbery, escape from a police officer, illegal possession of a firearm and a second attack. These accusations stem from two violent incidents in which they allegedly shot a 16-year-old girl when stole a phone call in 2009 and stabbed a man at a bar in 2021.
Witnesses described Ortley’s weapon used in the attack as a “3-inch long pocket knife.” Witnesses further said they saw the victim escape from the defendant, lose his shoes and turn around. At that point, Autry grabbed the victim and stated, “I started stabbing him in the back.”
In Ortley’s latest accusation, 2021, he was sentenced to 39 months in prison and five years of probation, but the court issued an enforcement stay.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Schultz said Minneapolis has recently seen “improvement in the number of murders in the city.”
“Of course, this is a big step and reminds me that Minneapolis is still working with just a few of the police officers that need it,” Schultz said of the mass shooting. “Many of the city’s leaders are hostile to law enforcement and even if they haven’t reached their peak in 2020, ’23, ’23, ’24, it’s still working in an environment where urban crime problems continue to persist.”

The former Attorney General candidate said Hennepin County “should put aside these distant left strange policies that say (criminals) liability is somehow unfair due to the circumstances in which they found their own lives.”
“We need to have violent offenders put in prison and just have time for victims and public safety,” he said.
The Justice Department on Sunday issued an investigation into whether the Hennepin County Lawyer’s Office, through new instructions from judicial authorities, excludes or protects rights, privileges, or immunities by the United States constitution or law.

In a letter dated May 2, DOJ officials cited Moriarty’s recently adopted “Negotiation Policy for Cases Involving Adult Defendants.” This directs prosecutors to consider race when formulating judicial offers, saying “racial identity should be part of the overall analysis,” and that prosecutors should “identify and address racism at the decision point.”
“The investigation in particular focuses on whether HCAOs are involved in illegal consideration of race in prosecutors’ decisions,” a Justice Department official said in a letter.
