Measles outbreaks continue to spread to Texas’ South Plains area as the state’s health department released the latest figures on Tuesday, March 11th.
A total of 223 confirmed cases have been confirmed since late January, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Health (DSHS).
This is up from 198 cases on Friday, March 7th.

Twenty-nine of the patients were hospitalized, health officials said.

The majority of cases (98) affected children between the ages of 5 and 17, followed by 76 cases among young children under the age of 4.

Thirty-eight cases have been reported among adults over the age of 18, with 11 still pending age.

Only five patients affected patients who received at least one measles vaccine. Eighty patients were not vaccinated, and 138 people were not vaccinated according to DSHS.
According to a report on February 26th, there was one measles-related fatality.

“Due to the highly contagious nature of the disease, there is a high possibility that additional cases will occur in the outbreak area and surrounding communities,” the health department said in its statement.
“DSHS is working with the local health department to investigate the outbreak.”

Dr. Marc Siegel, a senior medical analyst at Fox News, previously shared it with Fox News Digital.
“If you’re not vaccinated, there’s a 90% chance you’ll get it and step into the room where someone with measles was two hours ago,” he warned.

The best way to prevent measles is to receive two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and various experts.
