The Houston Texans claimed wide receiver Diontae Johnson off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on Monday after Tank Dell suffered a severe knee injury over the weekend.
Johnson is expected to play a role and be a key target for quarterback C.J. Stroud as the team prepares for the playoffs. Houston has already won the AFC South title.

But Johnson came to Houston after a tumultuous ending with the Ravens.
Baltimore acquired Johnson on October 29th in a midseason trade with the Carolina Panthers. The Ravens suspended Johnson for one game after he refused to play in the Dec. 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was subsequently exempted from all team activities.
The former Pro Bowler had one catch on five targets for six yards in four games against the Ravens. He has not played in a game since November 25th against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Johnson previously spent five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 2021 Pro Bowl season, he had 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. These numbers were career highs.
Dell suffered a dislocated patella and torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach DeMeco Ryans said.
For the second year in a row, Dell will undergo surgery after the season.
