Thousands of oyster crackers have been recalled after food manufacturers detect possible contamination, including “foreign substances.”
Ohio food manufacturer Shearer’s Foods, LLC, began recalls on February 21st. On Tuesday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) upgraded its recall to Class II.
Class II recalls include products that are “are likely to cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects, or are far away with the probability of serious adverse effects.”
This recall relates to specific batches of market pantry (target), great value (Walmart), huge Eagle and Vista branded oyster crackers, in addition to bulk varieties that are not intended for retail sales. According to the FDA, around 15,874 cases have been recalled.

Consumers are encouraged to return affected products to the location of purchase for a refund or exchange.
Metal contamination is not unheard of in food recalls. Last month, manufacturers said over 2 million MadeGood Granola Bars were called “there are potential safety hazards as there may be metal fragments in the product.”

In January, Aldi’s Casamamita Chicken and Cheese Tachitos was also reminded of the fear of metal contamination. The budget grocery chain told consumers to “dispose of affected products (affected products) or toss (those) back to their local stores for a full refund.”
