A new CBS daytime drama is making history It was the first melodrama in decades, and featured a black family at its heart. “Beyond the Gates” follows the powerful Dupree family on the wealthy Maryland suburbs.
Daytime drama focuses on Duprey as they navigate their lives. The series is also the first daytime melodrama to be greenlighted for the first time in over 25 years.
Tamara Tuney, actor – The series, who also appeared in “As the World Turns,” appeared on “CBS Mornings” on Thursday and said he decided to return to Soap Opera for a universal message.
“The only thing that brings me back is this show because its historical nature, the focus of African-American families is the central family of the show. “The family is wealthy and politically, and politically. A connected family, a loving family. You know. A supportive family. The show is multicultural. We have Asians.
Tuney also praised the show’s representatives behind the scenes.
“You know, I’ve spent years on TV that wasn’t the only black person in the building. Look at yourself to the people I work with,” Tuney said.
Daphnée Duplai, who also appeared in the series, praised the series for normalizing Black Excellence.
“Black Excellence means that it’s not just rappers and entertainers and athletes. You don’t have to be wealthy to become black excellence,” she said. “It’s the people in our services, our community leaders and our caregivers.”
While focusing on black families, “Gates the Gates” features a universal theme and storyline.
“Secrets and lies, all good human beings,” Tuney said.
“Beyond the Gates” premieres on CBS on Monday.
