Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest roller coaster, will be among the rides removed from Six Flags Great Adventure to make way for a “multiple record-breaking launch coaster” that opens in 2026.
This roller coaster, which opened in 2005 at a theme park in Jackson, New Jersey, was the world’s tallest at 456 feet. It was also the fastest roller coaster when it opened. However, that record has since been erased.
“We understand that it can be difficult to say goodbye to beloved rides and we appreciate the passion of our guests. These changes are part of our growing commitment to delivering great new experiences. and dedication,” said Brian Batica, president of Six Flags Great Adventure. Further details about Kingda Ka’s replacement will be announced “next summer,” Vatica said.
He added that the new ride will be a “must-ride attraction that captures fans’ imaginations.”
The announcement comes after about a month of speculation that the coaster’s run might be numbered. Many roller coaster enthusiasts have reported on YouTube and other social media platforms that there are credible rumors that the roller coaster will be discontinued.
In a press release Thursday, Six Flags Great Adventure also announced that the Green Lantern roller coaster will be closed for a new ride in 2026, as well as the Parachute and Twister rides.

Zumanjaro, the “drop tower” ride on Kingda Ka’s main structure, will also be closed, Six Flags Great Adventure later revealed.
Meanwhile, a new roller coaster called Flash, “North America’s first super boomerang roller coaster,” is scheduled to open in 2025, Vatica said.
On social media, many fans seemed upset with Six Flags Great Adventure’s handling of Kingda Ka’s closure.
“I’m so excited about the new ride, but I’m really wondering how they handled this. Why couldn’t they have announced this during the season?? I would have booked a flight to ride it again.” said one X user. He added: “And I know I’m not alone. They missed out on 2,024 visitors.”

“Kingda Ka deserved more recognition,” said another X user, adding that it was “heartbreaking and humiliating” that the record-setting roller coaster ended without any prior announcement.
In addition to announcing the closure of Kingda Ka, Six Flags also announced Thursday that a number of additional properties will be added to the chain’s theme parks.

Six Flags plans to invest more than $2 billion over the next few years, according to a company press release.
“Investments totaling between $500 million and $525 million in both 2025 and 2026 include new rides, attractions, themed areas, dining upgrades, and technology enhancements to provide unparalleled levels of We are sure to provide fun and excitement for our guests of all ages,” the announcement said.
