Secret Service officials filmed the man swinging a firearm that led to a “armed conflict” early Sunday near the White House, the Secret Service said in a statement.
The man was taken to a local hospital and his condition is unknown, the Secret Service said.
According to the Secret Service, they were notified of a man with “suicide intent” who may be traveling from Indiana. Around midnight, they encountered a man’s parking vehicle near the White House and found an individual who matched the explanation on foot, the Secret Service said.
As the officer approached, the man wore firearms around, and the “armed conflict” was said to have continued. Several law enforcement agencies said firearms are handguns.
No injuries were reported among the secret service personnel.
President Trump was not in the White House at the time. He spends the weekend at Mar-a-lago.
