California’s Democratic Party is looking to make a fresh start with the election of San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie, who defeated incumbent Mayor London Breed.
Mr. Lurie, a first-time candidate and successor to Levi Strauss and founder of an anti-poverty nonprofit, is an alternative to Mr. Breed’s lax policies on crime, drug use and homelessness plaguing the city. It positioned itself as a tough-on-crime alternative.
Lurie defeated Breed, the city’s first black female mayor, by more than 10 points, 56% to 43%.
In his first speech as mayor-elect, Lurie said he would “make our streets clean and safe for everyone, tackle drugs and the drug problem, shake up a corrupt and incompetent bureaucracy, and make sure our neighbors can afford to live here.” We will build enough housing and provide support for the Bringing life back to our small businesses and downtown. ”

Steve Hilton, a Fox News contributor who also worked for British Prime Minister David Cameron, told Fox News Digital that the change comes after San Francisco hit its lowest point in recent years.
“This great, iconic city is collapsing into crime and chaos and filth and corruption because of far-left policies, because Democrats are forever in power,” Hilton said. “You’ve seen open-air drug markets and homeless encampments everywhere, and crime is rampant.”
“And finally, people have had enough. We want change,” he said. “So they ousted Mayor London Breed and elected Daniel Lurie. He’s a Democrat, but he’s a reasonable guy. He wants to clean up this city.
“People want change in California. We’re seeing that across the board.”
Democratic lawmakers in the once-glorified California state told Fox News Digital they hope Lurie’s election will bring about change.
Chis Chen, a professional sports shooter who has lived in San Francisco for 17 years, said he is excited to see Lurie’s policy become a reality.
“I’m very excited about the outcome of the mayoral election here. I used to support London Breed, but the last few years have been very tough in the City of London,” he said. “It’s gotten better in recent months, but it’s too little, too late.”

“I voted for Daniel Lurie, and I believe he is the best choice as mayor to turn around the dire situation in some parts of San Francisco,” Chen added. “My neighborhood has its fair share of homeless people and drug addicts, but I live in a great neighborhood that usually doesn’t have that.
“This shows that the character of certain areas of San Francisco that have traditionally been safe for children has changed. We need people like Daniel Lurie to come and enforce the laws and clean the streets. We really need someone to make us safe again.” Let’s make a difference.” On the streets of San Francisco. ”
California Democratic Party political consultant Lee Neves told Fox News Digital that he expects the party to moderate after the mayoral election results.
“I think voters in San Francisco and across the Bay Area definitely sent a message Tuesday: They’re tired of the status quo. They’re tired of policies that embrace criminals and excuses for homelessness,” he said. “They want results and they want to get homeless off the streets and off the parks.”

“They want their streets and parks back and they want to be able to go shopping without worrying about being robbed,” Neves added. “Voters are fed up. Democrats need to sound the alarm to moderate their policies.
“We need to come to the heart of where people are so they can feel safe in their communities.”
