Several Republican lawmakers have accused liberal political action committees of posing as GOP staffers to extract potentially damaging information from officeholders and raise funds for Democrats, and text messages targeting female lawmakers, according to information obtained by Fox News Digital, have contained anti-Semitic and sexist slurs.
Rep. Ana Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said she received a text message this summer from someone posing as chief of staff to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. But soon after, the person launched personal attacks, accusing Luna of being a “fake” Jew and making lewd comments about her.
Luna says he’s now facing another harassment campaign as his reelection fight enters its final weeks. When contacted by Fox News Digital about the other allegations, Luna offered some bizarre details about the opposition research plan.
In July, someone posing as Abbott’s new chief of staff attempted to set up a fake phone call between Luna and Abbott about Luna’s re-election efforts, according to screenshots of text conversations provided to Fox News Digital by Luna’s office.

“Hello Congressman Luna, I’m Governor Abbott’s new (Chief of Staff). Can we schedule a call for tomorrow? This is Robert Black,” read the initial text message sent to Congressman Luna on July 18. Robert Black is the name of Governor Abbott’s actual Chief of Staff, who officially joined the office on July 22, according to a press release issued by Abbott’s office in early July.
Luna replied, “Yes! What time is it?”
“He wants to discuss how he can help him beat Ms. Fox,” said the source, who said he was an Abbott aide, suggesting the date and time of the call. Mr. Luna is up for reelection this year against Democratic challenger Whitney Fox.
“Whitney Fox?” Luna asked, before dismissing concerns about race.
“I’m always open to advice but to be honest, I’m R+8 so I’m not too worried. Did he see the polls or anything?” she asked.

“From what I’ve heard from Democrats, she’s raising a lot of money and has opponents,” the fake Abbott staffer responded.
In another screenshot of the text exchange, a person impersonating Abbott’s office asks Luna about border policy, asking “What would you like the Governor to say about the border?” to which Luna stops responding. The impersonator then asks Luna, “Are you there?” and launches into a series of personal attacks.
“APL you’re so clever but you still lose. At least you still have the fake t-shirt,” one text message read.
“Fake smile. Fake life. Fake Jew,” the message continues. “If you were a real Jew you wouldn’t be sending messages on the Sabbath.”

Luna said he believes the scheme was hatched by a liberal PAC targeting fellow lawmakers, including Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado. Ms. Boebert told Fox News Digital that she set up a time and place to meet with a member of Abbott’s purported staff when she received similar text messages. Ms. Boebert said the meeting could have been “unsafe and damaging” if they had met in person.
Boebert told Fox News Digital that her staff received text messages from someone posing as Abbott’s chief of staff during the 2024 Republican National Convention in July.
“The phone number used had an Austin, Texas area code and said Governor Abbott wanted to meet with me,” Boebert said, accusing a liberal political action committee of orchestrating the scheme, which she said involved someone sending her office “a lot of details and texts, including room numbers for specific hotels where a lot of dignitaries would be staying” for the meeting.

The meeting never took place, and Boebert said she realized “the whole thing was a hoax,” but that “if there had been a credible threat awaiting my arrival, this could have been a dangerous and catastrophic situation for me and my staff.”
“The people involved in this shady organization are habitually engaged in psychologically deviant behavior and are likely to cause harm if given the opportunity,” she said. “These sad and obsessive stalkers should be placed on law enforcement watch lists.”
Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz was also reportedly targeted, exchanging endorsement text messages with someone who appeared to work for Abbott’s office during the primary, according to screenshots of text messages posted to Mr. X by a liberal PAC.

Fox News Digital also called the number that originally texted Luna and left a message inquiring about the incident, but did not receive a return call.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna: I don’t think Biden will be the nominee
The plot against Mr Luna comes as he faces further harassment in his Florida district, where he was first elected to Congress in 2022.
Luna posted a lengthy statement on social media on Saturday, explaining that supporters of a political opponent, whom he did not name in the post, began a social media campaign on Friday “to publicly release my personal information, coordinate and solicit individuals to send threatening letters to my home address.”
According to Luna, a message posted to the Fox campaign’s Facebook account read, “If she’s ‘hiding’ and anyone wants to send her a love note or something, I know where she lives. She lives right around the corner.”
Luna said she contacted the FBI, her local sheriff’s office and police about the threatening messages. The sheriff’s office confirmed to Fox News Digital that it is investigating the matter. When asked about the matter, the FBI told Fox News Digital that due to Justice Department policy, “we cannot confirm or deny the existence of a specific investigation” and that “we cannot comment on complaints or tips that may come from the public.”
In comments to Fox Digital, Luna unequivocally condemned all political violence and said the threatening messages on social media surfaced after political opponents called her a “threat to democracy.”

“Political violence should never be tolerated,” Luna said Sunday. “My opponent has yet to condemn her supporters for calling me a ‘threat to democracy’ and then leaking personal information and calling for threatening packages to be sent to my house – all of this done publicly on her social media.”
Luna also referred to the attempted assassination of former President Trump in July, and that there was a second apparent attempt on Trump on Sunday.

“This speaks to a much larger issue,” Luna said of the harassment she faces. “The far-left is using hurtful rhetoric. This is just months after the assassination attempt on President Trump. I am one of the most targeted members of Congress, yet her supporters were asking strangers to send things to my home address (the one they provided). This is not just abhorrent, it’s shameful. I have a baby at home.”
“I do not condone this type of behavior in any way and I thank my supporters for not using this type of violent rhetoric,” Luna added.
