The House voted Thursday to condemn Texas Democrat Al Greene to heckling President Donald Trump earlier this week during the president’s speech to Congress.
The vote to denounce Green was 224–198.
Ten of the fellow Democrats in the lawmakers joined the Republicans, r-la. He expressed his formal disapproval of the act, consisting of House Speaker Mike Johnson, and read the criticism loudly to Green as he stood at the well in the house.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus sang the civil rights protest song “We Will Overcome” when Johnson was over, spurring a handful of Republicans to yell “Order!”
“Shame!” Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Joyce Beatty cried out to GOP representatives.
Johnson ordered greens to be ejected from the house chamber Tuesday night after Texas yelledly interrupted Trump’s speech to a congressional joint session and refused to sit down.
Less than 30 members of the house have been criticized.
Green said Wednesday that he would “suffer the consequences” to hold Trump down.
“But honestly, I’ll do it again,” he said at the time.
