MINNEAPOLIS — Prince fans will soon be able to book a stay “Purple Rain” House in Minneapolis. It is a celebration of 40th anniversary of an iconic movie.
It’s part of Airbnb’s Icons program, a nod to Minneapolis music legend Prince himself.
“You’ll see really subtle nods throughout, from the spray-painted eyes on the back of the bed to the original dolls that appeared in the movie,” AirBnb communications director Ali Kiram said.
From small details like wallpaper resembling the Purple Rain album cover to big things like a replica of the children’s bedroom downstairs, the Purple One is at the center of it all.
“Authenticity was very important to us when creating the space. Each room of the house incorporates different real-life memories, and the elements are authentic items from Prince’s collection.” said Killam.
Prince purchased the home in 2015, but it has remained closed to the public until now. Houses you’ve never seen before also display artifacts you’ve never seen before, if you can find them behind hidden doors.
“We have Easter eggs planted throughout the space, but there’s probably one really fun surprise down here in the basement,” Killam said.
Throughout the house, guests can find QR codes and notes from home hosts Wendy and Lisa (rock band mates from The Revolution). Through a QR code, the music legend’s closest friends will share memories, insights, and commentary about Prince. The two may meet guests at the door.
“I think people these days are looking for more than just a staycation when they travel. They’re looking for unique experiences,” Killam said.
The house will be operational on October 2nd and will accommodate up to 4 people per stay for a total of 25 overnight stays. Pay $7 per person, named after Prince’s favorite number.
