Minneapolis – a A 9-hour documentary exploring the life of Prince It will not be released on Netflix, and the new film will be produced by Prince Estate.
A statement posted on the official Prince Facebook page on Thursday said:
“Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that allows them to develop and produce new documentaries featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archives. As a result, no Netflix documentaries will be released.”
A 30-second video was posted on Prince’s official X page on Thursday, accompanied by the text “Vault has been released. #free.”
Oscar-winning film director Ezra Edelman worked in documentaries for nearly five years, from genius to flaws, all aspects of the Prince’s humanity.
Sasha Weiss, assistant editor of The New York Times Magazine, has spent about a year and a half reporting on the film’s creation and its shelves. She says she changed her leadership while Prince’s real estate was being created.
“No one in the real estate spoke to me the records, but my feeling is that they don’t like this really complicated and sometimes negative portrayal of a negative prince,” she said. He spoke in an interview with WCCO on the moon.
Weiss says Edelman interviewed more than 70 people for the documentary.
