This year’s awards allowed “Brutal” star Adrian Brody to be 2-2 in the Best Actor category, while Timothée Chalamett was able to take Brody off as the youngest recipient in the category if he filmed the statue for “the complete unknown.”
The two musicals take the best photos, “Evil” and “Emilia Perez,” alongside “Anora,” “Burthaist,” “The Completely Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Part 2,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys,” and “Material.”
Heading towards Sunday’s ceremony, viewers wanted to see if “Emilia Perez” could overcome recent controversy to secure a victory. Film star and Oscar nominee Carla Sofia Gascone faced criticism of past social media posts than many racists and Islam was considered.
“Emilia Perez” seemed poised for the best photo victory early in the awards season, but “Brutalist” and “Anola” have recently emerged as frontrunners.
Then there’s “Wicked,” which smashed the box office gross of the breakout last year. This feature stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eribo, who are scheduled to perform in the evening, despite not qualifying for nominations for the best song of the year. Erivo is eligible for the upcoming Oscar season, with “Wicked: For Good” set to feature new original songs.
