We’ve all experienced that moment of panic after sending a text message, whether it’s a typo, accidentally sent it to the wrong person, or something we wish we could take back.
Thankfully, there’s good news for iPhone users.
With the latest iOS update, you can now edit or unsend iMessages. Let’s take a look at how to protect yourself from potential embarrassment.

How to edit sent iMessages
Open the Messages app and find the iMessage you want to change. If you long press on a message, a pop-up menu will appear. Tap Edit. Adjust the text as needed. Tap the blue checkmark to confirm your changes.

Important notes about editing sent iMessages
You have 15 minutes to edit your message after you send it. You can edit the same message up to 5 times. Recipients will see an “edited” label on the modified message and can view the original text if they wish.
How to unsend an iMessage
Just like editing, first open the Messages app and find your message. Touch and hold the message and select (Undo Send) from the pop-up menu. The message disappears from both the device and the recipient’s screen.

Key considerations for unsending iMessages
After you send a message, you have two minutes to unsend it. Recipients may still see a notification that you unsent the message. This feature only works for iMessages (blue bubbles), not SMS texts (green bubbles).
Limitations you should know about
Although these features are very useful, they have some limitations.
To take advantage of all features, both you and the recipient must be using iOS 16 or later. If the recipient is using an older version or a non-Apple device, editing or undoing may not work as intended.
