JC Chasez, beloved band member NSYNCannounced their first major music project in 20 years. His new album is called “Play with Fire.”
“I want to make a musical and I want to make it seem like everyone knows I’m making music, so the idea is to release the music first and get people interested in the project.” Chase said on “CBS Morning Plus.”
He co-produced the album with Golden Globe Award-winning songwriter and composer Jimmy Harry. The music was inspired by Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein.
“We live in a time when technology and humanity are intertwined like never before. Mary Shelley wrote this piece in 1818, and today we are talking about these themes. .”
Chase said he was passionate about the subject, adding that in later years he appreciated the “Frankenstein” theme.
“We’re talking about AI. We’re talking about how to navigate a world like this, and that’s where I stumbled upon it. When I was younger, I read it almost as a school assignment. “But when I read it, I couldn’t believe how much of an impact it had on me later in life,” he said.
Chasez said he is involved in writing the script for the musical and is currently in talks with directors and producers about the project.
He credited his writing partner Harry with helping bring the project to fruition, explaining that Harry’s mother was a playwright and had written a play called Playing with Fire, which Harry gave to Chasez.
“What I liked about her story after reading it was that she framed it in terms of creating an emotional connection between the creature and its creator, Frankenstein. We focused on the conversations we had and expanded from there to come up with something of our own.”
Although this is a departure from his pop music background, Chasez said there are still elements of his past.
“There are other songs with that tempo and pop sensibilities, but I still want people to be moved and have fun with it,” he said. “The goal is to provide something that’s really engaging and something that people will talk about when they’re listening to it, or hopefully in the future when they’re watching it.”
I asked if I could see it as well. NSYNC As for a future reunion, Chasez said his former bandmates have been talking about the possibility more than before.
“Right now, Justin has a tour and I’m releasing this record, ‘Playing with Fire,’ so we’re focused on our current projects, but behind the scenes there’s always something possible. There are conversations going on.” ”
