New York City Mayor Eric Adams will attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday at the request of the incoming administration, his spokesperson announced.
Fabian Levy, deputy mayor for communications, said Trump’s team reached out to the mayor to invite him to travel to Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration. “Mayor Adams has accepted on behalf of the City of New York,” Levy announced on X.
“As the Mayor has said repeatedly, America has elected a new national leader. We will work together to build a safer, stronger, and more affordable city in New York City,” Levy said. I have to do it.”
Trump will take the oath of office at noon ET on Monday in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, becoming the 47th president of the United States. The ceremony was held indoors for the first time in 40 years due to the Arctic blast that hit much of the country. He began his day with a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, attended by his family and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.

Adams’ invitation to attend President Trump’s inauguration came three days after the New York mayor and the lifelong New York real estate developer met in Palm Beach, Florida.
The two discussed public safety, ways to bring back manufacturing jobs and potential new infrastructure investments the federal government could make in New York City, according to a spokesperson for Adams.

The Democratic mayor, who is awaiting trial on federal corruption charges in April, said the pair’s legal issues were not discussed during the meeting. As president, Trump will have the power to pardon Adams.
Adams is accused of receiving lavish travel benefits and illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals in exchange for corrupt activities.
