A naval aviator was in for a surprise after returning home just before Christmas from his third deployment in three years.
Patrick Brennan of Western Kentucky has been stationed in Japan since spring 2022, working as a weapons systems officer for F/A-18 fighter jets.
His wife, Cecilia Brennan, told Fox News Digital that her husband often confides in her that he misses his friends and hobbies, especially hunting.

Brennan said her husband even said he was planning a hunting trip next year or in 2026, but she didn’t expect to go on the trip this year.

“I approached his best friends and gave them an update. They told me they were going to Foul Plains Outfitter for their annual duck hunting trip. They travel from their home in Virginia to Kansas. They were thinking of driving, so I asked, ‘Do they want to stop in Kentucky?”’ Brennan said.
Fowl Plains Outfitters is located in Great Bend, Kansas and offers duck and goose hunting.
“After all, the same time they were driving through Kentucky was the same time my husband was coming back from deployment. I couldn’t give them room for one more person. It was God’s perfect timing,” Brennan said.

She packed all of his clothes and hunting equipment and “gifted” his belongings for Christmas.

A video posted to Instagram, which has been viewed 1.5 million times, captures the moment Brennan tricked Patrick into telling him that some friends were stopping by his house to “deliver something.”
Military friends are seen coming into the house decked out in hunting gear.
After catching up with the men, Cecilia Brennan takes out her husband’s suitcase and reveals that he is also going on the trip.
“It was surprising enough that his best friend knocked on the door, but he was shocked that we were actually going together. He still couldn’t believe we had made it. I can’t do it,” she said.

Cecilia and Patrick Brennan have a 6-month-old daughter, and Cecilia said her husband was away from her for most of the year as he served in the United States.
“He’s made a lot of sacrifices, but it’s well worth it to give him a chance to relax and recharge before he dives headlong into family life,” she said.

She added that she is her husband’s biggest fan and that includes supporting his hobbies.
“Nothing makes me happier than knowing he’s happy and now he’s going to have duck for Christmas.”
