The New York Mets are widely considered to have the best announcers in sports, and Thursday night provided an example of why.
Howie Rose, who has been calling Mets games since 1995 and grew up a fan of the team, answered the phone at 8:80 a.m. in New York, and both Rose and Pete Alonso responded to the moment. Ta.
With the game up 2-0 and two outs from elimination, Alonso hit a three-run home run to give New York a 3-2 lead. In the end, they won 4-2, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers and advancing to the divisional round.

If the Mets win it all, Rose’s call will definitely appear in the highlight video.
“Gone! He did it! He did it! Pete Alonso hit the most memorable home run of his career!” Rose yelled as the ball went over the fence. “Pete Alonso continues his fairytale season with the fairytale swing of his career! 3-2 New York!”
After a champagne shower, Rose and the Mets head to Philadelphia for the NLDS game against the Phillies.

But on the plane, with Rose sitting near the front and the rest of the team a few rows back, someone played the call over the plane’s speakers.
Rose was so shy at first that he covered his ears, but Mets players gave him a standing ovation.
Caster turned around, pointed at Alonso and saluted, and the two gave a big hug.
Pete Alonso’s dramatic home run in the 9th inning sends the New York Mets to the NLDS
Rose was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame last year, along with TV anchor Gary Cohen. Thursday night’s home run call automatically goes into Rose’s Mount Rushmore call. Rose hit Mike Piazza’s home run in the Mets’ first home game after 9/11, and was also behind the microphone for Stephen Matteau’s goal that sent the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 1994.
For the Mets, the miraculous victory is filled with a sense of déjà vu. It came just three days after the Mets fought back from down 3-0 in the eighth inning and 7-6 in the ninth to clinch a postseason berth in the first game of a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves.
Everything seemed to be going wrong for the Mets, but after a no-hitter in the sixth inning off Jose Quintana, they allowed back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. Alonso’s outburst was the first time a Mets player trailed after the ninth inning of a winner-take-all postseason game, according to OPTA statistics.
