Meta We fired an employee from the reality lab department responsible for developing virtual reality, augmented reality and related wearable devices.
The cut affected an unspecified number of employees working in the Oculus Studios unit, the division developing VR and AR games and content for Meta’s Quest VR headsets.
“Some teams within Oculus Studios are experiencing changes in structure and role that have affected team size,” the spokesman said. “These changes are intended to help studios work more efficiently with future mixed reality experiences.
A spokesperson said employees working on a supernatural VR workout app were affected.
“We are deeply saddened to share that some of our incredibly talented team members have been lost due to these changes,” the company said in a statement posted to the official Supernatural Facebook group. “Their contributions are committed to shaping our journey and your journey, and their absence will be deeply felt.”
The reality lab comes after the February meta was considered the worst performer after releasing 5% of the overall workforce.
Meta’s Reality Labs Division recorded an operating loss of $4.97 billion while garnering $300 million in sales in the fourth quarter, the company said in January.
Social media companies reported revenue on Wednesday.
Verge reported the layoffs early Thursday.
