“On the one hand,[the iPhone]was great because now almost everyone in the world has a cell phone,” Zuckerberg said on an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Because it allows us to do what we need to do.” “But on the other hand… they’ve taken advantage of that platform and put in place a lot of rules that I think are arbitrary, and (I think) like they haven’t invented anything great in a while. It’s like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now, 20 years later, they’re just sitting there. ”
Zuckerberg believes iPhone sales are struggling because consumers are taking longer to upgrade their phones because new models aren’t a huge improvement over previous versions. he added.
“So how do they make more money as a company? Well, they basically do it by milking people and, like you’re saying, more peripherals, etc. We’re doing that by imposing this 30% tax on developers to make them buy Connect.” Zuckerberg said. “You know, they make things like Air Pods, which are cool, but they just completely hinder other people’s ability to make something that connects to an iPhone in the same way. .”
Zuckerberg said Apple doesn’t want to compromise consumer privacy and security and is protecting itself from backlash from other companies. But he said the problem could be resolved if Apple fixed the protocol, such as by tightening security or using encryption.
“It’s not secure because it doesn’t have security built in, and now they’re using that as a justification for why their product is the only one that can connect in an easy way,” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said Meta’s profits would double if Apple stopped applying the “random rule.”
He also took a photo of Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which had disappointing sales in the US. Meta sells its own virtual headset called Meta Quest.
“I think Vision Pro is one of the big initiatives they’ve tried in a while to do something new,” Zuckerberg said. “And I don’t want to judge them too harshly on it because we’ve done a lot of things where the first version wasn’t as good, so you kind of want to judge the third version of it. But I mean, V1 was never a hit from the outside.”
“I heard it’s very good for watching movies,” he added.
