A French daredevil has realised a childhood dream by “soaring” off a mountain cliff on a flying carpet.
According to British news agency SWNS, 44-year-old Freddy Montigny said he had been honing his extreme sports skills for years in order to fulfil his dream of becoming a real-life Aladdin.
He developed unique stunts using his years of expertise in paragliding, skydiving and hang gliding, all of which he says give him the control he needs to “fly” on the carpet.

The dramatic video shows Montigny making the daring leap from the 2,400-metre Croix des Têtes mountain in France’s Vercors mountain range (see video at the top of this article).
He is shown “riding” the carpet as he rapidly falls to an altitude of 1,600 metres.

“I always wondered how much of the myths and legends I heard as a child were true,” said Montigny, from Choranche, France, reported SWNS.
He said, “I started paragliding at 25, skydiving at 30 and hang gliding at 35.”
These activities “helped me master the techniques of carpet flying,” he said.
He called the parachute his “main safety net.”

“While this flying carpet doesn’t allow us to fly at any speed or to any destination, it still proves to be an incredible way to subvert reality,” he said.
“I want to face reality and use the skills I’ve learned in life to pursue this dream,” he said.

Earlier this summer, Montigny showed off what he called “the fastest way to go fishing or to work” on his YouTube channel in mid-August.
He went on to write, “Remember when you were a little kid playing in the wind and opening your jacket and pretending to fly a plane… and now… it’s real,” while wearing what appears to be a modified raincoat.
