The Maine House voted to denounce Rep. Laurel Libby Tuesday night for a recent social media post pointing to transgender high school athletes winning the girls’ competition.
The Democratic majority in the main house, led by speaker Ryan Fecto, passed a denouncement resolution Tuesday night with a 75-70 vote. Libby is no longer allowed to speak or vote on the floor of the house until she apologizes.
Libby told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview after voting that she has no plans to apologize for her recent post.
After the accusations were decided, Fecteau told Libby that House members will take a break while Libby considers her apology.
“I told him, ‘We don’t need to make it easy.’

Libby’s post came last Sunday when he pointed out that a transgender track and field athlete had finished first in the Main Girls Pole Vault competition after competing as a boy exactly a year ago. The premise of Libby’s accusations by the Main House focused on the fact that she posted a photo of the minor and provided the name of the minor.
“This is an amazing double standard as there are public photos of this individual in many places, including social media and even his school posts. Yes, this post was viral, but this one attended a public event. I was an individual. I stood on the podium and accepted the championship medal that belonged to the girls who were in second place,” Libby said.
House majority leader Matt Munen denounced Libby in a statement on the floor of the house.
“She irreparably defeated the trust she had placed in her as her official service elected in this House of Representatives,” Moonan said. “This institution and everything in Maine deserves better.”
House minority leader Billy Bob Ferkingham opposed the accusation, noting that the state legislature’s ethics law did not mention online posts made by members.
During the vote Tuesday, Libby came to the House floor with a prepared seven-page speech on the importance of protecting girls and women’s sports from trans-inclusion. But her microphone was consistently off as she was about to give that speech all night.
“I couldn’t speak from the first sentence before the other side closed me down,” Libby said.
Libby later posted a video of her speech on Facebook after the hearing.
How transgenderism in sports changed the 2024 election and sparked national counterculture
Libby says she’s not going to apologize, but she’s taking other actions that she plans to take to regain her privilege of speaking with votes, but she didn’t give details about the plan.
Maine Republicans and Libby members lose their vote and voice over other issues in the state’s legislative process during a busy month.
Libby recently proposed a bill to expand access to mental health resources for Maine residents. In the next few weeks, Maine will vote for the next six months budget, and Libby will not vote for it either.
“It looks like I can’t talk about it or vote on it,” she said.
Trans-athlete Libby’s revelation has led to national conversations and coverage of state policies on national trans-inclusion after Maine announced it would not comply with President Donald Trump’s recent executive order of “no-men in women’s sports” I set it on fire.
Trump then vowed to cut funds to the state for refusing to comply with his orders at a gathering of governors at the White House last Thursday.
On Friday, Mills’ office responded in a statement threatening legal action against the Trump administration if it withholds federal funds from the state. Trump and Mills then spawned verbally in a widely publicized discussion at the White House during a bipartisan meeting of the governor.
Hours after that interaction, the U.S. Department of Education announced that it would investigate the state to allow trans-athletes to compete with women’s sports for potential Title IX violations.
Police protection was then assigned to high schools attended by trans athletes identified by Libby in a Facebook post amid concerns over safety.

A recent New York Times/Ipsos survey found that the majority of Americans, including the majority of Democrats, do not believe that trans athletes should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
Of the 2,128 participants, 79% identified as women, biological men, said they should not be allowed to participate in female sports. Of the 1,025 identified as Democrats or Democrats they rely on, 67% said trans athletes should not be allowed to compete with women.
For Libby, she protects girls’ trance to sports, despite her state’s Democrats and many lawmakers across the country, most Americans, and even most Democrats oppose it. She has her own hypothesis as to why she’s fighting so hard for it.
“I think Maine Democrats need to dig deeper because they haven’t worked hard enough,” Libby said.
But she hopes Democrats are fighting for their current stance and will su her on Tuesday night.
“This is a huge mistake on the part of the Democrats and I think they’re completely wrong about this issue. They say how the people in Maine are vehemently opposed them with this policy. She said she doesn’t understand if she’s.
Libby added that she believes her Republican colleagues have her back when fighting the blame.
