The Illinois family left unharmed after saying lightning hit the car while driving on the highway on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Route 13 in southern Illinois just before deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 6pm. Three families were found standing outside Ford, which suffered severe damage, according to the sheriff’s office.
The family told deputies they heard the noise, like a loud gunshot, before the car was filled with smoke.
