The iconic boy band “InSync” has released a new children’s book, “Trick or Treat on Scary Street,” that captures her love of Halloween. In an interview on “CBS Mornings” on Wednesday, Bass said the book is written for young readers and strikes the perfect balance between spooky and fun.
His love of Halloween dates back to his childhood, a tradition passed down from his father and grandfather.
“I grew up always just thinking of Halloween as scary, and now I’m doing the same thing with my kids, so they’re very desensitized to scary things,” Bass said.
He recalled growing up in Mississippi, where trick-or-treating lasted for hours, and noted how different things are in Los Angeles.
“We take kids to different areas where there are thousands of kids and hand them full-size candy bars,” he said. “Now we have a donation system so they can pick out a certain amount of candy and the rest goes to children’s hospitals.”
Bass, who has twins who will turn three in October, admitted that when it comes to planning Halloween, she and her family go all out.
He said he reads the book “about six times” every night.
Asked about the difference between writing children’s books and writing music, Bass noted that both involve telling a story.
“You have a story in your head, and you just have to make it work,” he said, even though the use of rhyme in children’s literature has veered away from industry trends.
Bass also didn’t shy away from the topic of NSYNC’s reunion.
“We are discussing what the future holds,” he said. “Things are very good, but we couldn’t say that until now.”
