Kristen Bell will return to the big screen in Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This,” playing a dating podcast host who falls for an unconventional rabbi played by Adam Brody. Bell, known for her roles in “Veronica Mars” and “Frozen,” said when the project came across her desk, it felt like a great fit.
“The show caught my interest because I thought it was edgy, thoughtful and funny, and I hadn’t seen such a realistic romantic comedy in a while that deals with the modern perils of dating, like dating apps and cultural differences.”
Bell also revealed that when she read the script, she knew straight away that Brody would be perfect to play her love interest.
“On page three, I knew Adam Brody was the only person who could convey that level of glamour,” she said, having worked with Brody before and was confident in their on-screen chemistry.
“I was pushing him from the beginning,” she said.
When asked why romantic comedies are so important right now, Bell said it’s because of the feel-good nature of the films.
“It’s fun entertainment. It gives you something to look forward to and it gives you joy and love when you watch it,” she said.
Bell is married to fellow actor Dax Shepard, and said that despite the two having opposite personalities, they always bring out the best in each other.
“We disagree all the time, which is fun and interesting, but we have such a strong bond that I’m always willing to listen to his opinion, even if I disagree,” she said.
Bell also offered some advice to young people hoping to make it in the entertainment industry.
“You have to work hard,” she said, “I never thought the opportunity would come to me. I just knew I had to keep putting myself out there.”
