“Then all of a sudden I got this script and I thought, ‘Wow, this is amazing. I have to do this.'”
Bates said in an interview with “CBS Morning” that at age 76, she never thought she would have an opportunity like this.
“Being invisible has been a big issue for me as well. There are a lot of women my age who really feel like they are invisible, and in recent years I have tried to suppress that despair. “It’s hard to get through each day,” she said. “If I hadn’t done this show, I might have felt the same way. But overnight, everything changed.”
The series is inspired by the original hit TV show of the same name. Bates, who initially considered not taking the role, will play a lawyer named Madeline “Mattie” Matlock. Her character decides to return to work and uses her age and resourcefulness to land a job at a prestigious law firm.
“At first I thought this was going to be another episodic thing, but in the final twist, Mattie turns a corner and gets into a chauffeured car and drives to Westchester, where she actually goes undercover.” Justice for my daughter who died from opioids.”
In addition to tackling ageism in the workforce, Bates said she feels healthier in retirement. I lost 100 pounds over the years.

The Emmy and Academy Award winner said she is passionate about her work and only sees herself as a “working actor.”
