Actor Jack Quaid will star as a man who can’t feel pain in the new action film Novocaine, which will open in theaters on Friday.
Quaid, known for his role as Hughie in the hit series The Boys, plays Nathan Cain, a character with a real but rare condition that prevents him from feeling pain.
“I often think of it like an action movie for horror fans. It’s how violent it is and how gory it is,” he said. “What’s so great about that is contrasted with this incredible romance between Shelley and Nate. If you don’t believe them as a couple, the action wouldn’t work for you.”
The film centers around Cain turning his condition into a superpower when his love interest is lured, leading to what Quaid describes as the most physically demanding role of his career.
“I had to do a lot of stunt training, a lot of workouts,” said Quaid, son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. “I’ve become the best shape of my life.”
The film highlighted by Quaid should be seen “on the big screen,” but was shot in Cape Town, South Africa, but this setting looks like San Diego. Despite the intense action sequence, Quaid reported that he was not injured while filming thanks to the stunt team.
Meanwhile, Quaid confirmed that the fifth season of “The Boys” is in work.
“We’re filming it in Toronto now,” he said of the Amazon Prime Video Superhero series, where he has been widely recognized.
“Novocaine” was released on Friday and distributed by Paramount Pictures, part of CBS’ parent company Paramount Global.
