The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a limited, localized ground operation targeting the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah on Monday night, beginning a new chapter in the Israel-Hamas war.
The development comes after the IDF carried out a successful attack against Hezbollah over the weekend, killing several key figures in the organization.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was one of the most notable deaths. The Israeli military also confirmed that Hezbollah Central Council Vice-Chairman Nabil Kaouk was removed by the IDF.
Shortly before Monday’s operation, the IDF imposed a closed military zone in Israel’s northern border area, including Metula, Misgab Am, and Kfar Giladi.
Biden says he will consult with Netanyahu as Israel attacks Sunni terrorist targets in Beirut
The invasion began after Israeli forces launched airstrikes on central Beirut on Sunday, marking the first time in the year-long war that the center of the Lebanese capital has been targeted.
The IDF had previously targeted southern Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. On Sunday, it targeted the Sunni terrorist organization al-Jama’a al-Islamiyah.
On Monday afternoon, President Biden expressed disapproval of the IDF’s impending ground operation.

“I know more about[Israel’s plans]than you think, and I’m comfortable with them stopping them,” Biden told reporters before the invasion began.
“There should be a ceasefire now.”
Earlier on Monday, the IDF issued an ominous warning against Hezbollah on X-Post.
The Israeli military announced that “A surface-to-air missile launcher storage facility set up by Hezbollah approximately 1.5 kilometers from Beirut International Airport was dismantled by precision strikes by the Israel Defense Forces.” “This infrastructure poses a threat to both Lebanese and international airspace.”
