Austin has experienced an influx of crime in recent years. The APD has asked residents to call 311 if they are stolen near an ATM during a 2023 shortage.
In August 2024, residents of the city’s Montpolis area told KVUE-TV that crime was on the rise and expressed fear of their safety.
“It’s standing up the hair on my arm. To hear 8, 9, 10 shots. Just bum, bum, bum. Where are those bullets going?” said the local. “I’m sleeping in bed and I don’t shoot.”

The Austin Police Department is actively investigating the incident. (Fox 7 Austin)
