Hurricane Helen is devastating communities in the southeastern United States, bringing massive flooding and ferocious winds to Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The Category 4 storm had killed at least 52 people as of Saturday, according to the Associated Press. Millions more are stranded without electricity, others forced from their homes as trees are torn up by their roots and torrential waters destroy people’s property.
Evacuations began before the storm made landfall and have continued for several days.
President Joe Biden said he and Vice President Kamala Harris are committed to devoting all necessary resources to recovery efforts.
“As we move toward recovery, we will spare no resources to help families, businesses, schools, hospitals, and entire communities quickly get on the road to recovery,” he said Saturday. said.
