Salt Lake City is a thriving metropolitan city with a booming population and many employment opportunities for banking and technology.
Many residents, such as former governor Michael Leavitt, pointed to the 2002 Winter Olympics as a catalyst for urban transformation.
“A lot of good things came together at the right time. We had a growing population. Technology was in the early stages and expanding. Startup culture was important,” Leavitt said. “We were able to educate a lot of engineers at the right time and make sure that we could close it with the Olympic brand and with art. It was a good combination.”
Salt Lake City is also a major draw in finance, one of the most concentrated industrial banks in the United States. Of the country’s 23 industrial banks, 15 are in the county.
Metro snow sets it apart from other cities and will help raise Salt Lake City’s profile once again on the international stage hosting the 2034 Winter Olympics.
But there are some real challenges ahead. For example, climate change and lack of diversity could have an impact on the future of cities.
