First on FOX: House Oversight Committee Chairman James Kommer, R-Kentucky, sent a letter from the “Sanite Governor” on Thursday requesting testimony as part of an ongoing committee investigation into the sanctuary’s jurisdiction and impacts on public safety.
Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, Illinois Governor J.B. Pretzker and New York Governor Kathy Hochul were called to testify at a May 15 hearing before the committee to discuss controversial sanctuary laws designed to protect illegal immigrants.
“The Oversight Committee and the Government Reform Committee continue to investigate the jurisdiction of sanctuaries throughout the United States, their impact on public safety and the effectiveness of federal government efforts to implement U.S. immigration law,” Comer told Fox News Digital. “The sanctuary jurisdictions and their occlusionist policies are hampering the ability of federal law enforcement officials to achieve safe arrests and to eliminate dangerous criminals from American communities. This threatens the safety of Americans.”

In addition to calling the Democratic governor before Congress, the committee demands:
“All documents and communications between official, employees, contractors or agents of the state (Illinois, Minnesota, NY) (Illinois, Minnesota, NY);
“All documents and communications between employees, contractors or agents of the Federal Government in relation to the official (Illinois, Minnesota, New York), and SANCTUARY status (Illinois, Minnesota, NY).”

President Donald Trump posted on the Truth Social Post Thursday morning, continuing his push to eliminate sanctuary cities.
Illinois Democrats minimize the violent acts committed by illegal immigrants as “several crimes.”
In March, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, and New York Mayor Eric Adams testified at a similar hearing before the House Oversight Committee.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, approximately 2.4 million immigrants entered the United States between 2021 and 2024 under the Biden administration.
The exact number of illegal immigrants currently living in sanctuary cities is uncertain, but immigration is clearly concentrated in metropolitan areas operating under sanctuary law, with ice and barriers to immigration law enforcement officers creating barriers to enforce the law.

“In addition to the Trump administration’s efforts to ensure federal immigration enforcement is not hindered, Congress must determine whether further legislation is needed to enhance border security and public safety,” Comer told Fox News Digital. “It is essential that federal immigration laws come into effect and criminal foreigners are quickly removed from our community.”
