According to the forward, the wait times that could finally end Harry Kane’s first major trophy could finally end in a few weeks, but his travel to Bayern Munich paid off in one or more ways.
Bayern’s six-point lead leads the Bundesliga in seven games. But at age 31, the search for silverware does not define his approach to the game.
“I know there’s a lot of talk about whether it’s going to end with a trophy and one trophy or 20, but I don’t think that will change my mindset,” Kane said in an exclusive interview with Morning Footy of CBS Sports Golazo Network. “Every day I wake up, it’s about being the best person, the best teammate, the best player I can and I feel at the pinnacle of my prime now, so I want to play with the best players while feeling this way as long as possible.”
Kane has long been the biggest scorer of his generation, so his ability to translate his strong form into the Bundesliga in the Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League is a bit surprising. He has scored 33 goals in 38 games in all Bayern tournaments this season. This season’s trophy chase also includes the UEFA Champions League. Here, they will target the spots in the finals on May 31st at their home stadium, and will face Inter in this month’s quarter-finals.
“Competing in the biggest, consistent game, just compete at the highest level, is probably what separates you from others,” Kane said. “I had a spell at Tottenham, where I had this, and we were trying at the highest level, and then there were years that wasn’t the case each year, so I think we can be the best team, the best team, the best defender – and we can show a consistent game.
Kane also said Vincent Company, who is in the middle of his first season as Bayern manager, played a role in helping him improve his game.
“I think he was first and foremost impressed as a tactical coach,” Kane said. “The way we play high press this season is almost one-on-one pressure and it’s a great way to play a lot of the ball, a lot of the ball, a lot of strength, a lot of counters, and a really offensive style.
“Every time he plays he’s always known as a great leader and I think he’s taken it into his coaching role. Whether you’ve played 500 games or you’ve played your first game, he’s going to handle the same thing. I really enjoy working with him because that’s all you can ask for.”
