A group of gunmen stormed a hospital in Mexico on Monday, attacking a man recovering from gunshot wounds and killing him and two police officers, authorities said.
The attackers shot the man more than 10 times in the central Atrisco neighborhood, killing police officers who tried to prevent him from fleeing, the Puebla state public security secretariat said.
“The victim admitted himself to the hospital early Sunday morning because he was initially injured by gunfire at the rally,” Puebla Security Secretary Daniel Iván Cruz told a news conference.
“Early on Monday morning, the person was killed by several men who entered the hospital,” he said.
“Police who arrived at the scene after hearing the emergency call were hit by gunfire and died on the spot,” it added.
According to the Public Security Secretariat, investigators are looking into whether the patient, approximately 30 years old, was involved in illegal activities.
