Oscar-winning actress Gina Davis challenges children’s literature in her debut book, The Girl Who For the Page, inspired by her own experiences and her taller experiences.
In an interview with “CBS Morning,” Davis revealed how her height shaped her childhood and the message she wanted to convey to her younger readers.
“All I wanted to do was not just be under-remarkable,” Davis said. “I’ve always been the tallest kid in my class, not just girls, and all I wanted to do was small, shrink and less notice.”
The actress not only wrote books, but also illustrated her, drawing years of interest in art.
“I’ve always been very interested in drawing, but I’ve always done it, but I didn’t think I was like an artist,” she explained. “I knew exactly what the characters looked like.”
Davis is known for his iconic roles in films such as Thelma & Louise and My League.
The book follows a character named Sheila, who is too tall and worried about her voice being too big on the page, and ultimately learns an important lesson about self-acceptance.
“After I stopped growing up as an adult, I realized it’s okay to take up so much space,” Davis said. “And that’s a kind of message in the book.”
“The Girl Who Was Too Big on the Page” is now on sale.
