Budget airlines also lowered their first quarter outlook. Frontier said revenue growth increased 5% in the first quarter, up 5% from last year.
“With lower demand in March, revenue growth is expected to be lower than expected, resulting in industry-wide fare discounts and promotions, amplified by the close nature of Frontier booking,” Frontier said in its securities application.
Frontier pointed to a decline in consumer confidence in March as evidence of weak demand.
Airline executives have said demand is low due to President Donald Trump’s trade war, bleak economic outlook, low consumer confidence and layoffs from popular governments.
Frontier plans to report the results on May 1st.
