Spooky season is here, and many families are getting into the Halloween spirit by decorating their homes, buying candy in bulk, and preparing for trick-or-treating.
Instacart has released a list of the most “Halloween-ish” destinations in the United States in its “America’s Haunts” report.

The grocery delivery and pick-up company created a “fear score” by analyzing the dates of Halloween-related purchases such as candy, decorations and costumes since October of last year.
Through the scores, Instacart was able to determine the ounces of candy, Halloween decorations, costumes, and items sold per person.
Instacart also identified local favorites by calculating “candies that sold the most weight share above the national average.”

According to Instacart, below are the top five “most Halloween” states and zip codes for trick-or-treating.
1. Draper, Utah 84020
This Utah town received the highest fear score of 100 out of 100. Locally popular candies include Peanut M&M’s and Twix. 84020 received a score of 95 for decoration and 94 for costume index.

2. Lehi, Utah 84043
Another Utah town falls just short of Draper, leading the top five with a score of 99.8. The community received a score of 97 on the decoration index and 89 on costume. Lehi also loves peanut M&M’s.

3. Scarsdale, NY 10583
This New York community also received a score of 99.8, with 96 points for decoration and 95 points for costume. According to Instacart data, locals’ favorite candies are Crunch Bars, Milky Way, and Almond Joy.
4. Birmingham, Michigan 48009
Birmingham, representing the Great Lakes State, was the third town with a score of 99.8. The town received 93 points for costume and 98 points for decoration. This community seems to support KitKat.

5. Hinsdale, Illinois 60521
The Chicago suburb took fifth place with a score of 99.7, with 93 points for decoration and 92 points for costume. Hinsdale’s best-selling candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, and M&M’s.
