The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a “limited recall” of one of the most popular potato chips in the United States due to undeclared allergens.
The recall affects certain 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, according to a Frito-Lay statement released by the FDA on Monday.
Officials said the bags may contain undeclared milk. Frito-Lay told FOX Business that 6,344 bags are affected by the recall.
“The products affected by this recall were distributed to select retail stores and e-commerce sellers in Oregon and Washington,” the company said in a statement. “Consumers could have purchased these chips as early as November 3, 2024.”

Frito-Lay is reminding consumers to look for a “guaranteed fresh” date of “February 11, 2025” on 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic potato chips and either the manufacturing code 6462307xx or 6463307xx. Consumers with a milk allergy should discard the bag with that information on it.
Frito-Lay added in a statement: “People with allergies or severe sensitivities to milk who consume the recalled products may be at risk for a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.”

A press release said the undeclared milk was discovered “following a consumer contact,” but that no allergic reactions had occurred.

“No allergic reactions related to this case have been reported to date,” the statement added. “Other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes and variety packs are not included in the recall.”
It is not uncommon for food distributors to recall products due to undeclared milk allergens. In March, the Pennsylvania-based company recalled more than 1,600 chocolate bars due to an oversight.

Last month, more than 79,000 pounds of Costco’s Kirkland Signature butter was recalled over concerns that the product’s packaging lacked a “contains milk” disclaimer, even though the product was clearly marketed as butter. It was done.
