French police announced on Tuesday that they were searching for Odile Ahouanouane, an athlete from Benin, who has been missing for a week.
Police in Normandy, northern France, said in a social media post that the 33-year-old woman was last seen on September 10, having left her child at a caregiver’s home, adding that she had not returned to collect her son.
National police appealed for information about the “alarming disappearance” and said Ajoanwanu was last seen in a Volkswagen Polo.

She placed eighth in the heptathlon at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. Prior to taking up athletics, Ahouanwanu was a top soccer player for the Benin national team in her youth.
“I also did athletics in primary and secondary school,” she told BBC Sport Africa in 2022. “I often beat everyone but I never saw myself in athletics. It was all about football. Then one day in 2007 I became Benin’s national champion in the high jump and everything changed.”
