Former President Jimmy Carter was remembered by the sports world on Sunday when it was announced that he had died at the age of 100.
The Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons were among the teams that remembered Carter in statements posted on social media.

“The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the passing of President Jimmy Carter,” the Braves announced. “President Carter was a testament to the best that America, and the state of Georgia, can produce.
“He served both his country and his hometown with honor throughout his life. The world knew him as an outstanding humanitarian and pacifist, but we know he was an avid Braves fan. We knew that. And we will miss him in the stands cheering on the Braves.”
“My heart goes out to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
The lifelong Braves fan was the first president to welcome a Super Bowl champion to the White House, marking the beginning of a time-honored tradition that continues through the current President Biden administration. In 1980, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates visited at the same time.

He was also present on April 8, 1974, when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s Major League Baseball home run record with his 715th home run. He threw out the first pitch in Game 6 of the 1995 World Series.
Mr. Carter was president when the United States announced a boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow as part of a protest against the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank recalled Carter as an “inspiring global humanitarian.”
“He lived his life with great civic responsibility and took it upon himself to be the change he wanted to see in people,” Blank said. “On behalf of my family and ours, I would like to send a message of heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
“President Carter’s kind and unifying spirit touched the lives of many people. He was a man of deep faith, did everything with integrity and grace, and did things the right way for the right reasons. .”

Mr. Carter served one term as president. He entered hospice care in February 2023.
