Bob Bryer, the former drummer for My Chemical Romance who played in the band’s career-defining rock opera “The Black Parade,” has died, the band said. He was 44 years old.
“The band is asking for patience and understanding as we respond to the news of Bob’s passing,” a My Chemical Romance spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.
The statement did not include any additional details.
Bleier replaced drummer Matt Pellissier in 2004, but suffered third-degree burns in an accident while filming a music video in 2006, the BBC reported. Bleier went on to face multiple complications from his injuries and was hospitalized with a staph infection.
In 2010, the band released a statement calling Bleier’s departure a “difficult decision”, the BBC reported.

Bleier took a break from the music business and subsequently auctioned off his drum kit to raise funds for an animal adoption center in Williamson County, Tennessee.

Formed in 2001, My Chemical Romance released four studio albums throughout their career, first breaking out with 2004’s “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.” They announced their disbandment in 2013. A year later, they released a greatest hits collection entitled “May Death Never Stop You”. In 2019, they announced a reunionlater revealed that they had reunited privately two years ago.
