Despite becoming the first head coach in Chicago Bears history to be fired in the middle of a season, Matt Eberflus had kind words for the organization after Friday’s firing.
Eberflus was fired after the Bears’ disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday morning, he met with reporters and expressed his belief that he would remain head coach, saying he was focused on the team’s Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Just hours later, Eberflus was fired.

“After meeting with (chairman) George (H. ” Bears general manager Ryan Pauls said in a statement.
“We appreciate Matt’s hard work, professionalism, and dedication to our organization. We would like to thank him for his contributions to the Chicago Bears and wish him and his family all the best in the future.” I am praying for you.”
Although some on social media criticized the timing of the Bears’ firing after Eberflus’ comments about the 49ers’ plans, Eberflus released a statement on Saturday expressing his “deepest gratitude.” .

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to our players for their hard work, dedication, and resilience. In every situation, in practice, in games, and especially in the face of adversity, you all come together and put in tremendous effort for the team and each other.” I tried my best.”
Eberflus also thanked the fan base for their “support and passion” and had kind words for the players.

Eberflus leaves the Bears with a 14-32 record, making Chicago the third NFL team to fire a head coach this season.
