France is rolling out new requirements for travelers who want to visit the country.
A “solidarity tax” has been added to commercial flight tickets for planes departing from French airports.
According to the French government’s public services website, the tax hike comes into effect on March 1, with around $8 being picked up for economic travelers who go to destinations in France or Europe.

“Depending on the company’s policy, flight prices do not necessarily rise. These increases may be absorbed without affecting the price of plane tickets,” reads the public service site.

ACI, the industry group representing European airlines and airports, urged the government in October to overthrow the ideas.

“If confirmed, this new plan would inadvertently undermine French aviation’s competitiveness, punish citizens, and ultimately reduce the economic contribution of the sector,” ACI Director General Olivier Jankobeck said in a report released at the time.
